Fort Taber Flag to Honor Westport’s Manuel Martin, Jr. WWII Veteran & Pearl Harbor Attack Survivor

During the month of June, the 34th Lights for Peace flag to fly at the Fort Taber – Fort Rodman Military Museum honors the memory of Manuel “Manny” Martin, Jr. of Wesport, a WWII Veteran and a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

Manny was the son of the late Manuel and Mary E. (Faria) Martin, Sr., and was a lifelong resident of Westport. He passed away on July 30, 2012 at the age of 90, just two months after being interviewed for a television series entitled, Heroes Among Us.

Fort Taber – Fort Rodman Flag Honors WWII Veteran Albert S. Broadland

 

1300 × 733?During the month of December, the 28th Lights for Peace flag flies at the Fort Taber - Ford Rodman Military Museum to honor the memory of Albert S. Broadland. Formerly a resident of New Bedford, Albert served honorably during World War II with the 98th Bombardment Group of the United States Army Air Corps.

Born on September 2, 1913, in South Dartmouth, MA, Albert spent much of his life living in the New Bedford area. After graduating from New Bedford High School in 1933, he attended the New Bedford Textile School and began working at the Morse Drill and Machine Company…

Flag at Fort Taber to Honor Manuel Leite – WWII Veteran & Purple Heart Recipient

During the month of December, the 16th Lights for Peace flag to fly at the Fort Taber – Fort Rodman Military Museum honors the memory PFC Manuel C. Leite, who served with the United States Marine Corps 4th Division during WWII. Leite earned the Purple Heart medal after being wounded in action at Saipan, in the Marianas Islands, on June 16, 1944. He passed away peacefully at the age of 99 on October, 25, 2020.

Empire Ford of New Bedford's Pet Adoption Event<

We want to thank our four local shelters that were instrumental in making our Pet Adoption Event a HUGE success. Twelve out of 13 puppies were adopted and the other puppy has several people interested. The other adult dogs and cats that were here also had several people who took applications, so overall the day was a tremendous success.
